Tamil Association of Residents and Medical Students Canada (TARMS) The Tamil Association of Residents and Medical Students Canada (TARMS) is a national not-for-profit organization in Canada focused on supporting Tamil medical trainees at various stages of their medical careers — including medical students, residents, and international medical graduates. It brings together trainees of Tamil heritage to help them succeed in medical education and professional development while celebrating Tamil culture and community. Mission & Goals Inspire and prepare future medical professionals: TARMS aims to help Tamil trainees become conscientious and successful practitioners who can contribute to population health and diversity in medicine. Community building: The organization connects trainees across Canada and internationally (including Sri Lanka) so they can support, mentor, and learn from one another. Representation: TARMS supports increased representation of Tamil medical professionals in diverse specialties and academic medicine. Key Activities & Programs Professional development: Workshops, webinars, and case studies on clinical topics, diversity, inclusion, and career skills. Mentorship: A mentorship program matching trainees with mentors to guide them through medical education, residency matching, exam preparation, and career planning within Canada and internationally. Global health initiatives: Projects and educational programs on global health topics, such as the Global Tamil Medical Student Network and talk series. Elective and research resources: Support for visiting electives in Canada, international research opportunities, and networking with faculty members. Recognition & support: Access to scholarships, travel bursaries, educational platforms, and equipment for students. Community and Culture TARMS celebrates Tamil culture and strengthens community ties among medical trainees. By offering culturally informed support alongside professional development, the o
