United Canadian Tamils Association (UCTA) United Canadian Tamils Association (UCTA) is a registered non-profit organization based in the province of Manitoba, Canada. It was established in 2020 in response to the ongoing humanitarian and refugee crisis faced by Tamil people around the world particularly those displaced by the long-running conflict and civil war in Sri Lanka. Mission & Vision UCTA’s core mission is to support Tamil refugees who have been displaced by violence, conflict, and persecution, helping them recover and rebuild their lives with dignity. This includes: Providing resettlement assistance and community sponsorship to help refugees relocate to Canada. Raising awareness about the ongoing humanitarian issues affecting Tamil populations globally. Advocating for long-term, sustainable solutions through legal and humanitarian engagement with stakeholders and partner organizations. Their vision is to create lasting positive change by ensuring refugees have access to essential services and government programs, and by working collaboratively with other individuals and organizations who share their goals. What UCTA Does UCTA focuses primarily on community sponsorship programs , which empower local groups, faith bodies, and civil society organizations to directly support refugee families through the Canadian private sponsorship system. These sponsorship efforts provide emotional, practical, and financial support to help newcomers settle, thrive, and integrate into Canadian society. They also work with various stakeholders to support refugees living in camps around Asia and other parts of the world, offering humanitarian assistance where it’s needed most. Partnerships & Collaboration To expand their impact, UCTA partners with community organizations and networks, including the Tamil Cultural Society of Manitoba , Valluvam (Ontario), and the International Tamil Refugee Assistance Network .
