Toronto will host the Global Tamil Research Conference 2026 from October 15 to 18, four days of sessions bringing together Tamil scholars, researchers, academics, scientists, technology experts, policymakers and community members from around the world. Organized by the Federation of Global Tamils, the conference runs under the theme "Classical Tamil and Tamils in the World of Artificial Intelligence," linking the classical language's heritage with contemporary debates on AI, language technology, philosophy, culture, diaspora studies, economics and history.
The organizers announced tickets at $30 for the Saturday, October 17 arts night, $50 for the three-day conference (October 15-17) plus arts night, and $100 for the Federation of Global Tamils' annual gala dinner on Sunday, October 18. A media briefing for the conference was held in Toronto in September, attended by MP Shanmugam Kugathasan along with academics including Dr. A. Shanmugadas, Dr. K. Visagarupan, Dr. Paul Rogan and Mrs. Vijitha Divakaran, where organizers outlined the program, the research paper submission process and plans for global participation.
Selected researchers travelling from Sri Lanka and India will receive travel and accommodation support, organizers said. Research submissions were invited in both Tamil and English, with papers reviewed by an expert academic panel. The program also announced the participation of Tamil Nadu BJP president Nainar Nagendran, according to the organizers' news section.
