What To Know
Rajinikanth's Tamil blockbuster Jailer 2 is back on Canadian screens after a brief halt. On Thursday, York Cinemas — the film's Canadian exhibitor — announced that the film is now available and that bookings are open, Live Mint reports, quoting the chain's update: "THE SUPERSTAR IS BACK! The wait is over. The roar is back. The legend returns! JAILER 2 IS BACK!"
The return follows a one-day interruption. On Wednesday, October 21, 2026, York Cinemas had announced that screenings would stop with immediate effect, saying the required Key Delivery Messages (KDMs) — the encrypted keys theatres need to project a digital film — had not been provided by the North American distributors, Shloka Entertainments and Prathyangira Cinemas, following the required authorisation from the production company, Sun Pictures. The chain said it had fulfilled all of its own financial commitments and payments but was technically unable to screen the film without valid keys.
Live Mint notes that the exhibitor's original Instagram statement announcing the halt is no longer available on its account, and that Sun Pictures had not commented on the matter as of the report. The resolution of the dispute was not detailed in the announcement.
Background: directed by Nelson Dilipkumar, Jailer 2 reunites Rajinikanth with the director of the 2023 blockbuster Jailer, with Rajinikanth returning as 'Tiger' Muthuvel Pandian alongside Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, Mirnaa, Shivarajkumar, Mohanlal and Jackie Shroff. The film released worldwide on October 15, 2026, and, according to Live Mint, is currently on track to hit the Rs 600 crore mark worldwide. It had earlier earned nearly Rs 540 crore in its first six days, already beating the record of the 2023 original, per Cinema Express.
